Viola

Viola 'Black Magic' is our own patented hardy black viola, still with the blackest flower around. Free-blooming, easy to grow groundcover for full or part sun. Zone 4. Our only problem is keeping them in stock Plant patent # 6595, commerical propagation prohibited.

Viola hederacea, Tasmanian Violet, is a beautiful moisture-loving creeper with lavender and white flowrs on long stems above glossy round leaves. A much more fre-blooming violet than usual natives; it may bloom right through summer. A fine specimen for hqanging baskets,k blooming n tendrils as it rails over the sides of the pot. Hardy only to Zone 9, but can be easily kept indoors over winter. In fact, it's a fine houseplant, easily adapting to low light as long as it it kept moist. Dappled shade is ideal outside.

Viola labradorica has purplish leaves and purple flowers. Its range includes Alaska, as well as Labrador, and although it is invasive, it is useful on shaded banks, woodlands, and wild gardens.
