Toyama nishiki

New cultivars and larger sizes:

New cultivars:

Some newly offered cultivars MAY be added to our list after they leaf out around mid-April. Others, including small, rare, and hard to graft cultivars, may be added in September. Once a cultivar sells out, it remains so until the following spring.

Heat Stress:

Heat Stress

Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

One of the few variegated laceleafs, sporting purple, pink, white, and green
in various combinations. It is a small mound, probably growing to not more
than 5'. It grows quite heartily for us in full sun, but has better variegation
in afternoon shade. You either like this tree or you don't: to some, it looks
like a red laceleaf that is diseased, but I think this is mainly because no one
expects variegation on a laceleaf. They could be technically correct, though.
Some plant pathologists believe all variegation is viral. In fall, the tree turns
uniformly gold. Not recommended for the coldest zones.

Size #1 trees ship after they leaf out, usually early to mid-April.

Size #3 trees are available beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. They are shipped bare-root to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars are not available in this size.
Orders placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant.
