Heat Stress: Mild temperatures are best for shipping and planting. Maples ordered in summer may have browned leaves, but this is only temporary. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F. Fall is the preferred time for planting; spring is the next best time. |

It's usually the case in the nursery business that new, improved cultivars replace older ones. In the case of ' Tamukeyama', the reverse is true. This cultivar, listed in Japan as early as 1710 (!) is now replacing many new cultivars in maple nurseries, particularly on the east coast. The reason is that 'Tamukeyama' is able to hold its burgundy color through hot, humid summers, and resist scorching better than most other red laceleaf cultivars. It is also quite vigorous, with long, cascading branches, reaching 8' if staked, smaller otherwise. Deep red bark is covered with a white , waxy frosting, an identiflying feature. Back to the future!

Size
#2 trees are available
beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. Starting in November,
they can be shipped bare-root to save shipping costs. These trees are in very
limited supply; many cultivars are not available in this size.

Orders
placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster
service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter,
but read this to see if
it's a good idea for you. |
