Stress
Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

Apparently another descendent of 'Bloodgood', with that deep red-purple color. However, this one adopts an orange-red overlay and a deep green undertone, making up a color all its own. Holds this color better than most through the season. A vase-shaped tree that grows well. Most sources say to 12' in height, we'll say 15'. Leaves are smaller and more deeply divided than 'Bloodgood', so the tree is more delicate-looking, with a cascading habit. Bright scarlet in fall. May be identical to 'Shōjō'. Van Gelderen says in one paragraph that the two are distinct, and in the very next paragraph that they can't be told apart. If they're that close, I'm not sure it matters. "Beautiful-faced monkey"? "Red Dancing Monkey"? The translation is suspect, but the kanji for 'monkey' does appear in the name used on one Japanese website. Size
#1 trees ship after they leaf out, usually early to mid-April. |

Size
#3 trees are available
beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. They are shipped bare-root
to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars
are not available in this size. |
Orders
placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster
service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter,
but read this to see if
it's a good idea for you. |
