New
cultivars:
Some newly offered cultivars MAY be added to our list after they leaf out
around mid-April. Others, including small, rare, and hard to graft cultivars,
may be added in September. Once a cultivar sells out, it remains so until
the following spring.
Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.
This is the "Improved' vesion of 'Shishio', another of the spectacularly spring-colored small-leaf types, similar to 'Shindeshojo', but a bit more coral/crimson than scarlet. Some rate this as the best of the Shindeshojo types, as eyecatching in spring as any flowering tree. When the fire dies, the leaves are a pleasant olive green with red new growth recalling its springtime glory. Red young stems and dark old ones contrast beautifully with the dark green summer leaves. A twiggy shrub to 8-12', it can have long new shoots when young, but slows down as it ages. Responds well to container culture, including bonsai, but will also take its place in the landscape quickly. Yellows, oranges, and reds in fall.

service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter,
