Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

Or 'Shin deshojo', meaning "new deshojo", in case you were wondering. We often refer to "Shindeshojo type", which means the class of maples that open a flaming crimson scarlet in early spring, putting everything in the neighborhood to shame. In the annals of mapledom, there are tales of traffic accidents caused by a careless maple maniac planting a 'Shindeshojo' within view of a busy street. Summer color is a mixture of cherry red and a reddish olive green or red-green variegated. Fall brings reds and oranges. But if the leaves fell off in July, it would still be worth keeping this tree for the spring display. A fat little upright to 6 or 8', it can be containerized or used for bonsai Young plants may produce long shoots, but as the tree ages, growth becomes more twiggy. During summer, some of the leaves may take on a bumpy appearance that some people get concerned about. Not to worry, it's just Shindeshojo. Size #1 trees ship after they leaf out, usually early to mid-April. |

Size
#3 trees are available
beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. They are shipped bare-root
to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars
are not available in this size. |
Orders
placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster
service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter,
but read this to see if
it's a good idea for you. |
