A rather rare cultivar known mainly for the beauty of its leaves, which are finely cut almost like a laceleaf, though the tree doesn't cascade or weep. 'Shigure bato' means "late fall rain". This name has to do (I think) with the contrast between the bright red new growth and the light, bright green of mature foliage. (Unusually, the color is lighter in shade.) The tree is slow-growing to about 10'. Fall colors are gold and crimson. Not similar to much of anything.
