Shaina
Well
known as a dwarf sport of 'Bloodgood', 'Shaina' is identifiable by its
short, blunt central leaf lobe and by its tufted habit, with leaves
bunching
at the ends of stems. In spring, the color is a bright, clear red. Later,
this
fades to a deep purple-read, but the new growth gives it a two-toned
look.
By midsummer, the tree may have layers of color: bright red new
growth
with red-purple beneath that and deep green in the portions shaded by
the
outer leaves. Grows to a height of 4' in 10 years, perhaps 8' altogether.
Similar to 'Oregon Sunset'.
