Scolopendrifolium

New cultivars:

Some newly offered cultivars MAY be added to our list after they leaf out around mid-April. Others, including small, rare, and hard to graft cultivars, may be added in September. Once a cultivar sells out, it remains so until the following spring.

Heat Stress

Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

Catchy name aside, this tree will put some variety in your life.
A giant among linearilobums ('Linearilobum' is actually
a synonym for this cultivar), it may reach 15' in 10-15 years,
and in excess of 30' eventually. In early spring, the new
leaves show reddish-orange. This is replaced by a fresh,
bright green in summer, which is in turn replaced by a deep
burnt orange in fall. It is upright and gracefully spreading.
A good choice for those in a hurry, it's more vigorous
than most, and, like other Japanese maples, responds well
to pruning if you want to keep it small.

Size #1 trees ship after they leaf out, usually early to mid-April.

Size #3 trees are available beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. They are shipped bare-root to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars are not available in this size.

Orders placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter, but read this to see if it's a good idea for you.

Size # 1 $15.00

Size #2 $25.00
