for its rough leaves, this cultivar is very similar to
'Kasagiyama'. An openly-branched shrub
to perhaps 10',
with a unique purple-red-pink coloration. The exact color
is subject to variations in exposure, soil, and time of year,
becoming less distinctive later in the year. Veining is also
a prominent feature of this leaf. Fall color is red, but not
overwhelming. Still, Vertrees found the cultivar of sufficient
interest to name and keep for its unusual color and rarity.
