Heat Stress:
Mild temperatures are best for shipping and planting. Maples ordered in summer may have browned leaves, but this is only temporary. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F. Fall is the preferred time for planting; spring is the next best time.
As the photographs
of this Australian cultivar suggest,
you shouldn't believe any descriptions you read. Photographs
aren't reliable, either. You just have to live with this tree awhile
to get a sense of the changes it will go through. Still, if you
give it reasonable care, you won't be disappointed. It will
develop into a spreading shrub to about 12'. Its parentage
would suggest a larger tree, but the radical variegation should
keep it small. Although delicate in appearance and needing
shade from hot sun, we have found this to be a surprisingly
hardy cultivar. A descendent of 'Aka shigatatsu sawa', which
is equally difficult to describe.
