A spectacularly
variegated cultivar, with lots of pink and white
in every combination. The variegation occurs on a majority of the
smallish, twisted leaves, which have a base color of glossy green.
Similar to 'Asahi zuru'' but faster-growing.
'Orido' is a stunner
that will brighten up a position in afternoon shade. Although
there is extra white and pink on the tree during periods of
new growth, the basic variegation holds all year until bursting
into orange glory in the fall, earning the name that means
"the rich-colored fabric of the master." A vigorous grower
to up to 20'. Van Gelderen says this cultivar is the same
as 'Versicolor'. Some twig dieback is to be expected on
this and similar cultivars, especially as a result of late spring
frosts. Twigs reverting to green should be removed.
