Orangeola

New cultivars:

Some newly offered cultivars MAY be added to our list after they leaf out around mid-April. Others, including small, rare, and hard to graft cultivars, may be added in September. Once a cultivar sells out, it remains so until the following spring.

Heat Stress

Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

'Orangeola' is mainly a brown-red or even dark green laceleaf with contrasting orange-red new growth that makes the tree look ornamented. Bright orange and red tones take over in the fall, and the fall color persists late, since the leaves stay on the tree longer than most. This is one of the larger laceleafs, ultimately reaching 12' or more, and may be staked to show off its cascading effect. Released in 1986, it is one of the better new introductions. And yes, 1986 is new compared to many cultivars that appear on lists from the 1700s.

Size #1 trees ship after they leaf out, usually early to mid-April.

Size #3 trees are available beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. They are shipped bare-root to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars are not available in this size.

Orders placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter, but read this to see if it's a good idea for you.
