Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

Again, the two most prominent maple authorities differ markedly on the description of a cultivar, in this case 'Nishiki gawa' or Pine Bark Maple. Vertrees says this is a 3' tree with yellow fall color. Van Gelderen calls it a 30' tree with red fall color. Clearly, what we have is the latter, call it what you will. (Vertrees description of 'Ibo nishiki' would seem to fit our cultivar, as well, although he says that tree doesn't have such rough bark as similar cultivars.) We think it's important to try to get the names right, so buyers will know what they're getting, but at this point we throw up our hands and provide a lot of pictures. Size #1 trees ship after they leaf out, usually early to mid-April. |

Size
#3 trees are available
beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. They are shipped bare-root
to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars
are not available in this size. |
Orders
placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster
service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter,
but read this to see if it's a good idea for
you. |
