New
cultivars and larger sizes:
Many newly grafted cultivars are added to our list after they leaf out around
mid-April. Others, including small, rare, and hard to graft cultivars, are
added in September. Once a cultiver sells out, it remains so until the following
spring.
Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.
The pointed leaves on this dwarf form overlap, forming a dense mat. The bright green leaves are a bit larger than on most yatsubusa types, but their long, narrow lobes are quite graceful, crowded onto short stems and overlapping like shingles. It is a small, compact plant, perhaps reaching 6' about when the lion lies down with the lamb. Rare and in demand for its neat, unusual habit. Introduced by J.D. Vertrees in the 1960s
