Kiyohime yatsubusa
Best-known for its lateral growth habit, 'Kiyohime' is useful in the landscape because it will maintain a very low profile while spreading out over a wall or pond. A bit more vigorous than other yatsubusa types, but still dwarfs well for bonsai. Left to itself, it might reach 6' in 10 or 12 years, but will be half again as wide. Starts out light green with red leaf edges, with a rich green dominating through the summer. The names "Kiyohime' and 'Kiyohime yatsubusa' are synonymous, 'yatsubusa' being the name for a group of densely-branched dwarfs.
