Irish Lace

New cultivars and larger sizes:

Many newly grafted cultivars are added to our list after they leaf out around mid-April. Others, including small, rare, and hard to graft cultivars, are added in September. Once a cultiver sells out, it remains so until the following spring.

Heat Stress

Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

Sure and it must be from extreme western Japan then, begorra. The interesting thing about this tree is that, although it is basically a green laceleaf, its new growth is bright pink. As the leaves mature, they become lime green, but the new growth, and thus the pink, continues throughout the summer, against the green background. The older green leaves can also have pink or bronze tips. The shrub can become dense and full, but is quite small, to around 3'. Fall colors are gold, orange, and red. Very few available.

Size #2 trees are available beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. Starting in November, they can be shipped bare-root to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars are not available in this size.

Orders placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter, but read this to see if it's a good idea for you.
