New cultivars and larger sizes:

Many newly grafted cultivars are added to our list after they leaf out around mid-April. Others, including small, rare, and hard to graft cultivars, are added in September. Once a cultiver sells out, it remains so until the following spring.

Heat Stress

Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

An unusually-colored cultivar which adds even more
variety to the Japanese maple palette. The leaves open
a rich orangeish red, a color which persists for a long
time, finally changing to an equally rich purple-brown.
All along, the leaves are prominently veined in green-gold.
In mid- to late summer, subtle 'sand-flecked' variegation
appears in the form of tiny green spots, giving the tree a
mottled appearance. Fall colors are red and yellow.
The colors are difficult to describe, but quite appealing.
Grows as a sturdy shrub, to 15' or more.

Size #2 trees are available beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. Starting in November, they can be shipped bare-root to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars are not available in this size.

Orders placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter, but read this to see if it's a good idea for you.
