Acer palmatum

Hanami nishiki

New cultivars and larger sizes:

Many newly grafted cultivars are added to our list after they leaf out around mid-April. Others, including small, rare, and hard to graft cultivars, are added in September. Once a cultiver sells out, it remains so until the following spring.

Heat Stress

Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

A ball-forming dwarf with quite small leaves. This slow-growing shrub will normally make only a couple of inches a year, probably reaching a mature height of 4' or so, and nearly as wide. Spring leaves have red-tinged edges, then foliage becomes light green in summer, yellow in fall. Another dwarf that is rare in cultivation because of the difficulty in both obtaining scion and successfully grafting it. Not recommended for outside in zone 5. The name translates 'Flower Viewing'.

Size #2 trees are available beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. Starting in November, they can be shipped bare-root to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars are not available in this size.

Orders placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter, but read this to see if it's a good idea for you.
