Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

Probably an American renaming of the old cultivar "Nigrum', widespread in Europe. A distinguishing characteristic is the silvery pubescence covering the leaf in spring as the leaf is unfolding. This is very distinct trait, making the cultivar easy to identify, as well as especially beautiful in spring. If the tree has it, it will hold its color better than most red dissectums. This traditional form is large, growing to as much as 15' in 50 years. It has a good, rich red color which it holds through the summer in shade, but which may fade somewhat in sun. Fall color is a bright red. Size
#1 trees ship after they leaf out, usually early to mid-April.

Size
#3 trees are available
beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. They are shipped bare-root
to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars
are not available in this size. |
Orders
placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster
service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter,
but read this to see if it's a good idea for
you. |
