Listed as threatened by the World Conservation Union and as a conniseur's plant by the JC Raulston Arboretum, this tree also produces alkaloids that are used in treating cancer in both traditional and modern medicine. It's a conifer with linear evergreen leaves, growing to about 20', and grows in the dappled shade of other conifers. The leaves are longer than those of it cousin, C. harringtonia. It's a very slow-growing tree, and and because of that and its rarity, plants are accordingly small, typically 4". Zone 7. |
