Stress
Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F. |

The same good year-round color as Katsura in a 6' dwarf. New foliage in spring is orange, then becoming a golden yellow, then a rich green with lighter tones in summer, then a fine yellow with orange tones in the fall. Photo is actually Katsura. The two leading authorities describe the stature of 'Katsura' quite differently, Vertrees calling it a dwarf shrub to 5 or 6' and even giving the synonym 'Katsura yatsubusa', while Van Gelderen says it is a full-sized tree. I have to wonder if Vertrees was referring to what we call 'Calico'. Some sun is recommended for best color, but afternoon shade will protect the delicate leaves. Leafs out relatively early, so beware if your area is prone to late frosts. Size #1 trees ship after they leaf out, usually early to mid-April.

Size
#3 trees are available
beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. They are shipped bare-root
to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars
are not available in this size. |
Orders
placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster
service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter,
but read this to see if
it's a good idea for you. |
