New
cultivars:
Some newly offered cultivars MAY be added to our list after they leaf out
around mid-April. Others, including small, rare, and hard to graft cultivars,
may be added in September. Once a cultivar sells out, it remains so until
the following spring.
Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.
A very classy variegated
shrub to 6-8'. The bluegreen leaves are edged in
cream, or, in spring, partly in pink. The cream edges turn magenta in
fall.
Growth is in an upright vase shape, and the twigs are very fine and
small
in diameter, and leaves are small, giving a smokey or misty appearance
when viewed from a distance. The delicate 'Butterfly' is justy popular,
and
is one of the few variegates that will, with occasional deep watering,
thrive in full sun. Possibly identical to 'Kocho nishiki', an old Japanese
cultivar, but not offered by that name at present.
Size
#1 trees ship after they leaf out, usually early to mid-April.
Orders
placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster
service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter,
but read this to see if
it's a good idea for you.
