Stress
Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

The old name 'Dissectum atrpurpureum' which used to be a synonym for this cultivar, has been applied to so many cultivars as a general name for red laceleafs that it is now "meaningless and misleading" according to Vertrees. The tree is still fine, though, with a warm red-brown color in spring, turning greenish in summer, then orange-red to yellow in fall. Very similar to the cultivar 'Ornatum', but possibly more cascading. It 's a large tree for a laceleaf, possibly growing to 10' or more in many years, and wider than tall. Introduced in 1896, it doesn't hold it's red color like modern cultivars, but it's impressive and graceful habit makes up for that. |

Size
#2 trees are available
beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. Starting in November,
they can be shipped bare-root to save shipping costs. These trees are in very
limited supply; many cultivars are not available in this size.

Orders
placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster
service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter,
but read this to see if
it's a good idea for you. |
