Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

The name 'Aoyagi' means 'green coral', a name which refers to the coral-bark maples, most famously 'Sango Kaku'. This, then, is the green-barked counterpart of the coral-bark maple, with outstanding pea-green bark color that provides winter interest. The tree is somewhat smaller than 'Sango kaku', usually growing to 15-25', but the two are planted together to good effect. The leaves are lighter green in summer, and change to a good yellow in fall. Like the coral-barks, the green bark of 'Aoyagi' is more prominent in winter, and looks good in snow. This cultivar has been with us since at least the 1890s.

Size
#2 trees are available
beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. Starting in November,
they can be shipped bare-root to save shipping costs. These trees are in very
limited supply; many cultivars are not available in this size.

Orders
placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster
service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter,
but read this to see if
it's a good idea for you. |
