New
cultivars and larger sizes:

Heat
Stress
Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

A very changeable
cultivar, both through the seasons, and in different exposures, and
also between old and new growth. It's leaf is reticulated (prominently
veined) and may include white, light green, deep green, pink or bronze,
and a red overlay, in various combinations, and at the same time or
different times. In this regard, it's similar to both 'Ariadne'
and 'Kasagiyama', as well as to 'Peaches
and Cream' and the Ghost series. Grows
to the neighborhood of 8-12', and wider than tall. Leaf lobes are deeply
cut and widely separated. A vigorous, sturdy, and beautiful tree for
zones 6-9, probably not for zone 5. If my life depended on translating
the Japanese, I'd say 'Red April Chaos'. I'd probably be a goner, but
the description would still apply. |

Size
#2 trees are available
beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. Starting in November,
they can be shipped bare-root to save shipping costs. These trees are in very
limited supply; many cultivars are not available in this size.

Orders
placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster
service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter,
but read this to see if
it's a good idea for you. |
